Suited to a single professional candidate with all-round riding skills schooling horses for polo, basic level Dressage & the basics of Jumping. Flat-work schooling more important than polo playing experience. Two year contract.
Responsibilities / Requirements of role:

Sole charge of yard of 16 horses managing & overseeing all aspects, leading & handling young stock correctly.

Confident to bring on young TB's (x12) for polo; two ponies & two warmbloods in yard that require Dressage & jumping schooling. Development of age, schooling & work or injury appropriate fitness plans, re-starting & re-schooling as necessary, riding green horses in all environments, hacking & working in open spaces, able to ride over poles in specific exercises but not necessarily need to jump.

Experienced horse-person, experience schooling up horses off the track: groundwork, lunging, long-reining - train to work through top-line, collect & comfortably come on to the bit. Working knowledge of muscle development & correct carriage imperative, flatwork riding to a good standard including schooling in lateral/collection/extension work, neck-reining schooling an advantage but not essential.

Working knowledge of correct hoof balance & trimming, shoeing & maintenance & thus able to keep an eye on farrier's work.

Turnout to show standards when required, including trimming, plaiting etc.

Basic knowledge of feeding, ability to plan feeding programmes.

Individual with a mature outlook, strong work ethic & able to work unsupervised.

Supervision of & training grooms / other staff.

Teaching experience an advantage but not essential.

Level of Experience, Qualification(s) Required / Training Offered: Suitable stable management experience, riding fit with suitable ridden, backing training & experience bringing on horses, able to resolve potential problems that arise when schooling & installing correct habits, thorough understanding of use of aids. Experience with off-track thoroughbreds and/or highly bred warmbloods an advantage.
Details to Veterinary / Vet Nursing / Speciality requirements: First aid & hoof care knowledge essential, able to identify lameness/injuries/illnesses, able to bandage, fit tack etc. Planning of routine veterinary care
Full/Part-Time; Hours of Work; Weekend/After Hours Required: Full time, handling emergencies out-of-hours where required.

Remuneration / Package Perks: ZAR15-20,000 per month experience & qualification dependent. Emergency medical evacuation insurance provided (maintain South African Medical Aid & show proof of such) - if no medical aid evacuation policy can be obtained which includes hospital cover for emergency procedures in SA. Personal accident & loss of income insurance covered as are annual return flights to SA for vacations.

Any additional comments: Two year contract, cannot apply for work permit before having a candidate - process can take 4-6 weeks. Current accommodation is off-site within 5km of yard, not suitable for pets. Different venue possible to accommodate a pet. Longer term prospect option to stable own horse. Use of company vehicle excludes fuel for private use.
